San Francisco 2011

Tristan's company wanted him to come to San Francisco to work from the office for the week.  He was going to be training people on the ins and outs of his job.  I got permission from my company to also work from San Francisco for the week.  How convenient for us!!  I would visit several of the rehab units in the downtown area.  The best reason for both of us to be in CA for the week was to visit our new nephew, Jakob Claron Manfred Mueller, who was born on June 10th.

He is an adorable baby and he slept most of the time we were at the house. It was great to visit with Kim and Andreas in CA before they move to Texas later this year.
On Wednesday night we went to the San Francisco Giants game (Tristan's company had a game night).  They played the Minnesota Twins. It was a super cold night at the game so we left half way through...but the Giants were ahead.
I found a wonderful Bakery that we went to several times during the week.
Here is the winning sign of the week.  I took this shot with my phone while visiting one to the facilities.  The sign was taken down shortly after and a new sign was put up (grammar corrected).

Grand Teton/Yellowstone Adventure

When I was young my family went to Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks each September and stayed at Colter Bay.  We meet up with the Reading family each year for some fun and adventure.  I don't remember when we actually stopped going but I will always have a great memories from those family trips.

We planned the this trip to coincide with a family shindig in Pinedale, WY but when that was cancelled we decided to keep our reservations and enjoy more time in the parks.  This was Tristan's FIRST TIME!!  It was fun to watch him as we explored.  We also decided to invite my sister Kerry and her son Isaiah.  It was also Isaiah's first time.  Kerry can't remember ever coming up with the family which may be true since we could have stopped coming yearly before she was born. My brother Aaron was also up for the weekend with Meredith.  What great timing!

This was a whirlwind trip and we did not have a lot of time to spend in any one place. We were able to hit most of the highlights of both parks in three days but I could have spent all that time at Grand Teton and another three in Yellowstone.

The weather this June has been a little crazy!  We had a mix of it all...sun, rain, snow, warm, cold & very windy.

The hightlights of the trip are pictured here!

Monterey, CA

The day after we returned from Vail I boarded the airplane and headed to California for meetings in Monterey.  I spent sunday afternoon and night with Kim and Andreas. It was great to see them again and to see all they have done to the house. I drove down to Monterey on Monday to the Aging Services Conference where I helped in the exhibit hall.  I went from snow & mountains to sun & beaches.  Monterey is so beautiful this time of year.  I was at the conference with my boss Kim More. The pictures are from our scenic drive of Monterey and 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach at sunset. We joked that this was my gift for Administrative Assistants Day which happened while I was on vacation.

Colorado Vacation

Tristan and I have had a great week in Colorado.  We left the beautiful spring weather in SLC and headed over to Vail, CO where is snowed every day but one.  (As I write this entry it is snowing outside again. The tall pines outside out window have gone from green to white and I can't see across the valley.)

  • On the drive down we stopped at Colorado National Monument (for a stamp in my NPS passport) which is a small monument off of I-70.  The Monument is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.  There are a lot of hiking possibilities but we opted for the 23 mile drive that had multiple rest areas to see the amazing red rock views.
  • We went to The Inn at Gore Creek for an amazing Easter Brunch on Sunday. The food was great and so was the view we got from our table overlooking the creek.
  • Unfortunately this was a working vacation for Tristan and he spent his days in the condo while I went out and about.
  • Vail ski resort closed on Sunday along with several other resorts in the area.  The one resort that is open until July is Arapahoe Basin. It is the highest resort in the US with the base being just above 10,000 Feet (the base is higher then the highest peak at the Canyons resort Ninety-nine Ninety) and the highest point being just above 13,000'. I skied on Wednesday which was a perfect ski day. A-basin received 9 inches of new snow overnight and had received 30 inches in the past 36 hours. Powder! Powder! Powder! It was an amazing day with sun and snow off and on all day.  I did not think I would last very long but I skied for 5 hours (with a short lunch break). I am so glad my friend Chris told me about A-Basin!
  • Tristan and I took time to explore in and around Vail which was fun and not crowded since the most the tourists have left.
  • Overall this has been a relaxing & stress free vacation. I can't wait until we go to Yellowstone in June.
